K.A. & V.P. Pugh Timber Merchants was established in 1974. Based in Launceston, Tasmania, we specialise in supplying Tasmanian Blackwood (acacia melanoxylon) to the furniture, joinery and flooring industries and also for musical instruments.  Blackwood is an ideal timber for applications such as kitchen cupboards, benchtops, tables, sideboards, coffee tables, chests of drawers, doors, pool tables, entertainment units, floors and any application requiring a hard wearing, rich distinctive timber.

We also supply other quality Tasmanian timbers including Tas Oak, Myrtle and smaller quantities of Wattle, Celery Top Pine and Black-Heart Sassafrass.  We deliver directly to end users world wide.

Selectively logged Tas Oak

At our Lindsay Street warehouse we receive rough sawn timbers of various species that have been selectively logged in Tasmania.  We deal directly with sawmills across the state who operate using sustainable logging practices to bring quality saw logs to the market.  A significant quantity of our saw logs come from recovered timber from logging operations.

We take the rough sawn planks and rack them in our yard, where they remain for a period to air dry, then followed up with kiln drying to bring the moisture content down to 12%.

After kiln drying, every plank is individually inspected, docked and graded as required into packs of timber ready for shipping.  Packs are plastic-wrapped to prevent water damage during transport.
